The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online learning with weekly face-to-face class meetings. This redesign focused on improving the student experience by simplifying course navigation, aligning the online course with the classroom schedule, and making expectations easier to understand.
Rather than redesigning the instructional content, the primary goal was to create a more intuitive and organized learning environment that helped students focus on learning rather than locating course materials.

The original course had evolved over time as delivery methods changed, particularly during the transition to fully online instruction during COVID-19. As a result, the Canvas course had become more difficult for students to navigate, with inconsistent module organization, numerous content pages, and activities that no longer aligned with the hybrid classroom environment.
The redesign simplified the overall course structure by organizing modules around the weekly class schedule, consolidating instructional content, and aligning learning activities with the current hybrid delivery model.
The examples shown below illustrate the redesign of a single module. This same redesign process was applied consistently across all 14 instructional modules in the course.

Clear reading assignments placed at the beginning and end of each module to help students prepare for upcoming class sessions.
Consolidated content by replacing numerous content pages with a single supplemental information page using tabbed content.
Instructor-led classroom discussions replaced Canvas discussion boards that had remained from the program's fully online delivery during COVID-19.
Improved assignment visibility through consistent naming conventions and due dates displayed throughout each module.
Module requirements provide students with a clear view of weekly expectations.
