LC State Arboretum
Committee Chair
In 2018 the Vice President of Administrative Services invited me to be the Chair of the Arboretum Committee at Lewis-Clark State College. Since becoming the Chair, the campus arboretum has become a Tree Campus Higher Education with the Arbor Day Foundation and is a Level 1 Accredited Arboretum with ArbNet on the Morton Register of Arboreta.
In my role as Chair, I have also created the brochure for the Campus Tree Tour, designed the Arboretum Logo, and launched the Facebook page. The committee is made up of faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Tree Campus Higher Education
Annually the application for the award of Tree Campus Higher Education with the Arbor Day Foundation must include how LC State meets each of the five standards of the program.
I prepared the 2022 application, which is then reviewed and edited by the entire committee. To learn more about the Tree Campus Higher Education program, visit the Arbor Day Foundation website. The current LC State Arboretum application is available on the LC State Arboretum webpage.
Arbor Day Celebrations
Part of the requirements for being a Tree Campus Higher Education is hosting an Arbor Day Celebration. In 2022, the celebration was a commemorative tree planting to celebrate Faculty Emeritus, Dr. Rhett Diessner. In 2023, the event celebrating a long-time employee of Lewis-Clark State College, David Walker. For each of these events, I coordinated with groups on campus, the City of Pullman, the college's grounds crew, and local media outlets to promote the events. I designed the promotional materials and created social media event pages to reach out to the public.
